In the shade of the Amazonian Andes, on the lush shores of the Maranon river, Finca el Cedro could not be blessed with a more perfect spot for the care and development of its precious coffee crops. Owned and run by the forward-thinking Nilson Silva Diaz and his family, the farm in the Amazonas region of northern Peru is blessed with nutrient-rich soils, with many layered water tables providing fresh clean water for the farm’s irrigation.
Whilst traditional practices have been instigated at el Cedro, many of which had been passed down from Nilson’s father, there as been a constant drive to improve every element of production and share knowledge among all smallholders in the region.
Rethinking what could be explored in their precious microclimate, Nilson managed to secure Gesha seedlings through the Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera PROCECAM. Having successfully sown two hectares on the April of 2017, this second harvest from the lot has shown amazing results in the cup.
With a plan to submit more lots to national and international competitions in the coming seasons, including the Cup of Excellence, the motivation for more farmers from the region to also pursue the goal of high quality lots is an exciting one, as we will see more and more delicious lots from this rapidly developing specialty origin.
