Gachuiro is one of four active washing stations (or ‘factories as they’re known in Kenya) owned by the Kiama Coffee Farmers’ Cooperative Society. 401 cooperative members deliver their ripe coffee cherries to Gachuiro at harvest time. Almost half of these farmers are women.

The Gachuiro team, headed by factory manager David Kamau, meticulously sort the coffee cherries before wash-processing them. They then carefully dry the beans on raised beds in the sun for anywhere from one to three weeks.

Coffees from the Nyeri area are known for being complex and fruit-forward in the cup. This delicious and intensely sweet lot is a beautiful example of a coffee from this part of Central Kenya.
