El Guatelón Estate has been in the Juarez family for three generations. When Guillermo Juarez took over the farm in 2010, he began to focus on producing specialty-grade coffee. He entered the family’s coffee in the Cup of Excellence competition and, after a near miss in 2012, they placed in 2014. They’ve been place-winners almost every year since, including in 2021. This recognition challenges Guillermo to keep improving. “We want to go further,” he says. “We know we can deliver higher quality. After all, we know living and succeeding is just about that: always make an extra effort.”
This coffee was grown on a plot on the farm called La Bugambilia, named after the bougainvillea plant, which is common in Guatemala with its vibrant pink and purple flowers. This is a pacamara variety coffee. This variety can be famously difficult to roast but, when done well, it is exceptionally delicious. We spent a lot of time perfecting this roast, and we love how juicy and distinct it’s tasting in the cup.
