Petit farm is located in Kenya’s Central Highlands, where the rich volcanic soil and cool climate provide ideal conditions for growing coffee. The farm is owned by 80-year-old producer, Peter Ndugo. The son of a coffee farmer, Peter grew up in the area before moving away to pursue a career in finance. When he retired in 2010, he returned and established a small coffee farm. He has since acquired more land, and his plantation now covers ten hectares.
From the outset, Peter made a point of planting coffee varieties that produce a high quality cup. He also decided to invest in on-site processing infrastructure, rather than selling his cherries to a cooperative or private mill. This gives him oversight of every single quality variable. It also enables him to employ up to 50 people from nearby communities during the harvest period.
Petit is an outstanding example of a coffee from Kenya. It has a lovely acidity and a rich, jammy sweetness in the cup.
