This coffee was sourced by one of our local importing partners, 2nd Mile Specialty Coffee.

This lot was produced by smallholder farmers who belong to AMCOS (Agricultural Marketing Co-operative Society) in the Mbeya region of Southern Tanzania. These farmers primarily grow Bourbon & Kent varieties at elevations of 1000-2000 MASL. After picking, the farmers deliver their harvests to the washing station for sorting & processing. AMCOS incentivize the farmers to do only selective ripe picking, which is one of the most important steps in producing natural-processed coffees.

After rigorous sorting, the cherries are laid out on raised beds in a thin, single layer. To control the fermentation process and achieve optimal moisture content, the coffee is regularly turned and covered during the hottest part of the day and night against possible rain pour. As a result, the coffees have a distinct fruity aroma reminiscent of ripe berries & tropical fruits.

This lot consists of Peaberries, which is a mutation that causes only 1 round seed to grow in the cherry instead of 2. Peaberries are typically known to be more intense in flavour & with this lot, We were immediately drawn in by the depth of flavours that this coffee exhibited. The coffee showcased deep dark red & purple fruit notes, as well as a winey acidity. The sweetness reminded us of fleshy tropical fruits, which we identified as mangosteen or lychee. The taste experience left us with a lingering sweetness with light tannins, like red grapes.
