This is our first showcase of a Ugandan coffee & boy is it a banger! This coffee comes from the Bwindi region of Uganda, which surrounds the UNESCO-World Heritage Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is amongst some of the most fertile volcanic soils in the world.

This lot was processed as a Black Honey lot. A lot of care and attention was devoted to the processing method, to ensure clean flavours and a fuller body. Once the freshly picked ripe cherries are delivered to the washing station, they are immediately sorted to remove any “floaters” – cherries that are less than sufficiently ripe. The cherries are then de-pulped, leaving the mucilage on the beans. The beans are placed on African raised beds, that allows for a more even drying process to avoid over-fermentation.

This coffee comprises fully of SL28 varieties, the popular varietal originating from Kenya. The honey process brings out riper fruit notes like dates, as well as a distinct tea-like mouthfeel. The acidity is reminiscent of orange peel.
